The entry is allowed to:

  • Portuguese citizens and their families;
  • Foreign citizens that legally reside in Portugal and their families;
  • People that have been fully vacitated and can prove it by mean of a COVID Digital Certificate issued by a EU/Schengen country;
  • People that reside in any country of the EU or Schengen;
  • People that reside in countries or territories in which the epidemiological situation is in accordance with Recommendation (EU) 2020/912 of the Council: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada,  South Korea, United States of America, Japan, Jordan, Katar, New Zealand, People’s Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Republic of Moldova, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan;
  • EU and Schengen citizens and foreign legal residents in these countries when in transit;
  • Travelers for essential reasons: Professional, academic and family-related motives, for health and humanitarian reasons. (México included)

Other nationals are still allowed to transfer between connecting flights within Portugal, however they are forbidden to leave the airport.

People that have been fully vaccinated and possess a COVID Digital Certificated issued by a EU/Schengen country are exempt from presenting a negative test.

Everyone traveling, regardless of country of departure, must present a negative Covid-19 test, conducted through RT-PCR (TAAN) with a sample retrieved no more than 24 hours before the boarding. The test is mandatory to all those older than 24 months, even while in transit/connection flights. Portuguese citizens and foreign residents in Portugal may conduct, exceptionally, the test upon arrival at the airport.

At the current time, having been vaccinated, or not, bears no relevance in regards to entering Portugal.

Quarantine upon arrival is not mandatory, except for passengers arriving from South Africa, India and Nepal, who can only for essential motives and have to remain in domestic isolation during a period of 14 days.

Travellers for essential motives are considered as such in the event that they can prove, through means of documentation, at the moment of boarding or upon border control, their motives, may they be professional, academic or of another nature.

We advise all travellers to research the current restrictions imposed by countries of connecting flights between Latin America and Portugal.
